Sustainability
eco-friendly on site
We’re continually refining our earth-friendly offerings in an effort to lessen our footprint here at Black Bear Lodge. And to be upfront, we know we don’t have it all figured out. If you have an idea, brand, or product that we should check out, drop us a message: hello@tahoeblackbear.com.
For us, sustainability is not a buzzword but a mindset. It’s a filter for how we make decisions and operate on a daily basis. We live in a beautiful natural environment and understand that we have a huge responsibility to help take care of this special place.
Tahoe Tap
A common misperception is that you need to buy a case of water bottles to stay hydrated during your hotel stay. The truth is that Tahoe tap water is far, far, far more rigorously tested than anything you might buy in a plastic bottle and tastes delicious. Seriously, it’s won awards.
To really carry the message through, on Earth Day 2024, the City of South Lake Tahoe banned the sale of single-use plastic water bottles. So bring your reusable water bottle (or grab one of ours) and fill it up! Here are some great resources from Take Care Tahoe, if you’re thirsty for more on the topic.
Toiletries
Soaps, lotions, shampoo, and conditioners are all stocked in your room with refillable dispensers. Each is filled with thoughtfully made concoctions from William Roam. Their products are made in America with earthy ingredients like Maine Blueberries, Kansas Wheatgrass, and Napa Valley Red Wine Grape extracts. A unique blend, expertly crafted to provide you with a daily dose of antioxidants, phytonutrients, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to lather away dirt and grime without compromising the hair’s natural shine.
in-room Coffee
You’ll find coffee sachets in every room freshly roasted and ready to be brewed from our friends at Avid Coffee Roasters. Their sustainably farmed beans are roasted in nearby Sonoma County, and all of their packaging is fully compostable.
organic wine & local beer
We offer a variety of our favorite organic and sustainably farmed wines at our bar. In addition, we have a variety of seasonally rotating beers on tap from our friends at South Lake Brewing Company, brewed right here in South Lake.
Linens
Arguably one of the top ways hotels can be more sustainable is to stop offering daily linen and towel changes. At Black Bear Lodge our practice is to change linens and towels on request. This reduces our water, energy, and detergent consumption.
merchandise
Our sundry shop features merchandise printed and embroidered at Rise Designs here in South Lake Tahoe. Grab a tote bag on your next visit - they’re perfect for loading up to the brim with groceries or farmer’s market produce.
